I Was Monty's Double

A FILM BY John Guillermin

Synopsis

It is 1944! Harvey and Logan, two members of MI5, have been given the almost impossible job of working out a scheme to convince the Germans that the allies' invasion might well take place on the North African coast. Harvey is at a London theatre when, along with the rest of the 'all-Services' audience, he is astonished to see 'General Montgomery' taking the salute. The impersonator is Clifton James, an ex-actor serving in the Royal Army Pay Corps. This starts the most daring and, as it turned out, most successful, impersonation of the war.
